SMALL ALBUMS VIDEO PREMIERE
Perennial-
Mouthful of Bees
Sometimes a band makes great songs, and is just a band.
Sometimes a band makes great songs, while also completely creating a world within and surrounding the sound. Beyond just aesthetic, or even attitude, is this all encompassing landscape where all things are streams that are feeding into the massive tributary where all of
the music,
and performance,
and aesthetic,
and attitude,
and that unknown factor that draws everyone in a little closer to observe and follow,
resides.
New England’s, Perennial specifically designs everything to thrash and yell in a specific setting they’ve sculpted and scraped for over the last few years. A place where they are introduced as the main character of haunted house tales, and legends are created about just how high the temperature gets at their live performances. Striped shirts, and a depth of knowledge on the albums they listen to, on the way and back from such shows, all fuel these tales. A place where instruments become band members, and everything is swirled into a crushing fight for the minutes Perennial gets to play every single second of every single song as loud as they want.
A world where people scream out loud in the middle of an empty room. A place to shout until throats split right into a guitar or a snare drum. Where everything is a platform to stand on, something to jump over or kick around, and all open space must hold the gallons of Dr. Pepper fueled sound these three people can crush together and cast like spells of fire and might.
This entire landscape can be witnessed in the 1 minute and 31 seconds of Perennial’s new music video for, “Mouthful of Bees,” a standout pistol pop from their 2024 album, “Art History.” There are fists smashing into instruments, sunglasses, bubblegum, black and white, or just a whole screen of purple, guitar being played in every direction hands can hold it, everything being thrown on the floor, people falling on the floor, everything being picked back up and slashed to pieces, slow motion, fast motion.
They captured the legend of Perennial.
I’ve seen videos of Perennial’s live performance, but have not had the joy of being in the room. Watching this feels like the knife edge of almost being there. Perennial delivers everything they sound like and perform like and it only stokes the hope to see them someday soon.
As mentioned, Perennial released one of the best albums of 2024 back in June. If you have not heard “Art History,” go right now and listen. If you have heard “Art History,” what a perfect moment to go listen again after the syringe of magma you just received from his new video. It’s right here so you don’t even have to try to find it:
Perennial will also be heading from New England to the UK in December!
(See the dates below)
If you live there and you just watched this video and thought something like, “wow, this rips,” you are now absolutely obligated to go see Perennial live!
Perennial is the coolest band in the world, and we are all so lucky to have anything and everything they continue to create and share.
